CD Packaging: The "Found Photography" Fad

The fad of using ‘found photography’ Polaroid images as the main artwork for CDs is back again. It makes me wonder why. Do they genuinely see the beauty in it as it is? Are they Dada artists (anti-art) who try to rebel against society’s standards and conventions of art? Do they want to mock CD packaging? Do they want to appear effortless? Or are they just plain lazy?

I mean I can appreciate Polaroids or the ‘found photography’ concept if they are aesthetically pleasing or they are trying to evoke a story, a mood, or a theme.  In one look it should be obvious that there’s a process-that the artists were brainstorming and discussing about a concept before they actually did the artwork. The artwork should not look as if the artists just searched for stock photos and weaved a weak concept afterward.

This Tori Amos album is an example of an album art that makes good use of Polaroids. I can say that it tries to evoke an emotion through iit framing, angle, setting, wardrobe. They used the polaroid medium to enhance the nostagia of travel and to make it more aesthetically appealing. In one glance you can say that the people behind this are thinking.

But I do not feel the same way towards these:
