CD Packaging: GRAMMY Winners for Album Cover Design – Seventies

Grammy Awards began presenting awards for Best Album Cover in 1959, recognizing the growing artistry of the ‘face’ of recorded music releases. From 1962 to 1965 it was separated into Classical and Non-Classical divisions. From 1966 to 1968 it was separated into Graphic Arts and Photography divisions. In 1974, the name of the award was changed to Best Album Package, and changed again in 1994 to the current name. Since this is a CD packaging blog, I’ve decided to put them in our site for design references. As we view CD packaging designs per decade, we can notice how CD packaging design evolved through time and how some techniques still surface in the cover designs today. If you like, you may also relate the cover designs to the culture, music milestones, or art trends of the decade where they belong.
