There are many reasons why the vinyl record format has been gaining popularity for the past years. It gives a better listening experience with the tactility and high sound quality.

But aside from the obvious, the packaging of the format is also a big factor.

Vinyl packaging has larger dimensions compared to any other physical audio format which makes it a great canvas for any artwork.

And of all the vinyl packaging, the trifold has the most space to showcase art.

So after going through every album we have, we compiled a list of the most awesome vinyl albums with trifold vinyl record jacket packaging.

#1. ACT I: THE LAKE SOUTH, THE RIVER NORTH & ACT II: THE MEANING OF, AND ALL THINGS REGARDING MS. LEADING BY THE DEAR HUNTER

The American rock band from Rhode Island, The Dear Hunter, released a vinyl album compilation of their debut album, Act I: The Lake South, The River North, and their 2nd studio album, Act II: The Meaning Of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading, in 2010.

There were three 12” standard black vinyl records housed inside the trifold custom vinyl packaging. The first one holds all 8 tracks from Act I and the last two hold Act II’s 15 tracks.

The trifold vinyl record jacket’s inner space was utilized by the band for the tracks’ lyrics. Given the helplessness and hopelessness that the album’s tracks are story telling, the cover is a very appropriate visual to set the listener’s mood.

#2. SENJUTSU (戦術) BY IRON MAIDEN**

A more recent album we have here is the album by heavy metal band Iron Maiden titled Senjutsu (戦術).

The title is a Japanese word that roughly translates to “tactics”. It was released in 2021 and is the first ever studio album from the band after a six-year gap from their 2015 album.

It was a commercial success, and rightfully so, given how ambitious the album’s scope was. What made it a better album is the vinyl format that came with its release.

With the Japanese title of the album, Mark Wilkinson dressed Eddie as a samurai holding a katana and put him against a black background with the album title and band name in red.

Since the vinyl records are in a tri fold, the band did not hold back with the inner artwork, as you can clearly see here. It’s a beautiful painting of Eddie conquering the enemy, a perfect art piece to display at home.

#3. BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

The 2016 superhero film directed by Zack Snyder is the first film to ever feature both Superman and Batman.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is a great film with a great soundtrack and an even greater vinyl OST album for it.

This tri fold vinyl record jacket is just one of the many versions, but we think it is the best. It’s got awesome artwork printed on them and high quality vinyl pressing.

#4. HELLOWEEN BY HELLOWEEN

The German power metal band, Helloween, released their album of the same name last 2021 with 12 tracks and 4 bonus ones.

The seven-membered band had a vinyl pressing of their album on three standard black vinyl records, with one having a jack-o-lantern etched on one side.

It’s a perfect album for Halloween with its hauntingly good tracks coupled with an eerily cool artwork for its tri fold jacket.

#5. SYNTHETIC MEMORY SYSTEMS – VOLUME I BY ALIEN COMMUNICATIONS

Alien Communications is a record label housing DJ’s and recording artists based in the UK.

For their album Synthetic Memory Systems – Volume I released in 2021, they had a vinyl pressing as well as 12” vinyl jacket printing for a tri fold jacket.

The black vinyl records compliment the blue and green color scheme of the album’s cover.

#6. CHROMATICA BY LADY GAGA

Lady Gaga’s Chromatica vinyl album is one that you would surely want to have added into your collection of tri fold jackets.

Aside from the awesome inner artwork, the fact that the jacket is also embossed makes it even better.

#7. (WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY? BY OASIS

The 1995 album from the rock band Oasis, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, was remastered and repressed last 2019.

The album includes one of the band’s most popular songs, Wonderwall.

The 2 vinyl records pressed for the album are packaged inside a tri fold vinyl record jacket that features old-themed photographs of the band, a good way to reminisce about the past.

#8. DOUBLE KICK HEROES ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Double Kick Heroes is a 2D side-scrolling video game where you shoot down hordes of zombies.

It is also a rhythm game which makes killing zombies more fun. Get a copy of the OST vinyl album of the game and kill the undead to the sound of metal music.

#9. EMOTIVE BY A PERFECT CIRCLE

The rock band A Perfect Circle released their album Emotive in 2004 and along with it was a vinyl album with two 12” vinyl records inside a tri fold custom vinyl packaging.

The album is composed mostly of the band’s covers of anti-war songs.

The album’s visuals fit the message that their album went for. The front cover of the vinyl record jacket shows a crumbling stone-made peace symbol featuring the world on fire, symbolizing chaos.

A herd of sheep under a black and red sky also gives a chilling feeling, knowing how sheep are symbolized as people in the bible.

#10. THE LAST GUARDIAN ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

The Last Guardian is an action-adventure game by Japan Studio and GenDesign.

The game’s plot is a flashback of an older man telling a story of his adventure with a giant half-bird, half-mammal creature named Trico.

If you’ve played it and loved the soundtracks, then you have the chance to have them all in one vinyl album. You’ll love the exterior artwork of the tri fold jacket, thanks to Nimit Malavia.

#11. WORKS VOLUME 1 BY EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER

Emerson, Lake & Palmer is a progressive rock supergroup consisting of keyboardist Keith Emerson, vocalist, bassist, and guitarist Greg Lake, and percussionist Carl Palmer.

Works Volume 1 is their 5th studio album which was released on vinyl records.

The vinyl album has two 12” vinyl records with sides one, two, and three designated for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, respectively. Side four was for the three members with their 2 tracks.

The design on the interior of the tri fold vinyl record jacket shows the separation happening in the tracks featuring the members with their instruments.

#12. GAME OF THRONES SEASON 6 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Another film OST album we have on this list is from the popular series Game of Thrones.

The album is a triple vinyl set holding the soundtracks for GOT season 6. It comes with a tri fold custom vinyl packaging that features cuts from the episodes all throughout the season.

The best thing about this though is the etching of the house sigils on one of the three vinyl records.

#13. HUMANKIND ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Humankind is a turn-based strategy game developed by Amplitude Studios.

It was released last year and has gained favorable reviews. The vinyl edition of the video game’s original soundtrack includes 17 tracks which were composed by Arnaud Roy.

The two 12” white-gray marbled vinyl records are stored inside a tri fold vinyl record jacket that features an awesome artwork of two civilizations fighting.

#14. GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD BY ELTON JOHN

Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album was released in 1973.

Its vinyl release had two standard black vinyl records housed inside a tri fold custom vinyl packaging.

The front cover features Elton John donned with white pants, a varsity jacket saying “ELTON JOHN” on the back, sunglasses, and red heels walking down a yellow brick road.

The interior part of the jacket is printed with the lyrics of the songs and some artwork.

#15. CLAYMAN (20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION) BY IN FLAMES

In celebration of Swedish metal band In Flames’ 20th anniversary, the band released a vinyl album 20th Anniversary Edition for their fifth studio album Clayman.

The edition comes with one 10” vinyl record in a printed inner sleeve and one 12” vinyl record (both orange designed with black swirl) and a 16-page booklet packaged into a tri fold jacket.

This is by far one of the most awesome tri-fold jackets on this list. Given that one record is smaller in size, instead of having it slipped in the center sleeve of the jacket, it has a space for a smaller inner sleeve.

#16. BLACK SYMPHONY BY WITHIN TEMPTATION

Within Temptation’s live album, Black Symphony, has a unique design on the interior of its tri fold jacket.

Unlike most albums with their usual artworks or photographs of the musician/s this time we got a photograph of the crowd during a concert.

We can, of course, presume that this is the live audience of the band as they performed the tracks in the live album.

#17. FEAR INOCULUM BY TOOL

Fear Inoculum is rock band Tool’s Grammy-winning album released in 2019.

The vinyl release had three 12” vinyl records stored inside individual inner sleeves in a tri fold vinyl record jacket.

The cool optical illusion artwork on both sides of the jacket is the highlight of this physical album.

#18. DRIVING INSANE 20 YEARS SPECIAL EDITION BY BLACK SUN EMPIRE

Dutch drum and bass group, Black Sun Empire, reached the 20-year mark of their career in the music industry last year.

To celebrate it, the band released a special edition for their 2004 album Driving Insane.

And this special edition is indeed special with the terrifyingly cool artwork on the interior of the custom vinyl packaging.

#19. DUNE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Another cool interior artwork is from the original soundtrack album for the film Dune.

The 2021 film focuses on Paul Atreides and his travel to another planet to ensure the future of his own people.

Everything about and related to the film just brings that interstellar, magicky vibe, from the film, to the soundtrack, all the way to the physical album of the OST.

#20. DISNEY’S FROZEN DELUXE EDITION ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Disney’s Frozen OST soundtrack would be a great gift to anyone, even to yourself, for this coming Holidays.

It’ll be hard to find a copy of it though since it’s a limited edition.

Anyway, it’ll definitely be a great album to display and play during the wintery nights.

#21. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR & AVENGERS: ENDGAME ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Last 2020, a year after Iron Man snapped his fingers and saved the world, MC fans still can’t get over it. The scores for the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were released by Mondo in a box set.

The box set comes with 6 “Infinity Stone” vinyl records each film having three and housed in their own tri fold jacket.

What makes this box set awesome is that it boasts a new artwork, one having Captain America and Thanos fighting each other (Infinity War) and the other having Iron Man and Thanos (Endgame).

#22. THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an action role-playing game by CD Projekt, a sequel to The Witcher 2.

For the video game’s original soundtrack, a vinyl release was made. The vinyl album consisted of 4 clear, red-splattered vinyl records, 2 for the complete soundtrack of the game and 2 for the soundtrack of the Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine Expansions.

All four are packaged into a tri fold vinyl record jacket with a hauntingly great artwork in black and red.

#23. ENTOMOLOGICAL SIEGE 2004/2009 BY INSECT WARFARE

Insect Warfare’s Entomological Siege 2004/2009 is a grindcore-rock album that features tracks from their past releases (from 2004 to 2009).

The simple yet sinister design of the physical album tells you that it’s a great album to have.

#24. BACK TO TIMES OF SPLENDOR BY DISILLUSION

Disillusion’s 2004 album, Back to Times of Splendor was critically acclaimed and is considered by a lot of people as a modern metal classic.

A limited edition with only 500 vinyl copies of the album was released in 2015 and it was not just acoustically pleasing, it was visually pleasing too.

The artwork on both the tri fold jacket and the inner sleeves brings us back to the olden days.

#25. HOMECOMING BY AMERICA

Last but not the least is British-American band, America’s, 2nd studio album Homecoming.

The album was released in 1972 on vinyl record with a tri fold jacket and a paper inner sleeve. The album’s artwork on both interior and exterior are just great and timeless.

The exterior artwork is landscape oriented and features the members with a painted background of silhouettes and a rising sun. The interior, on the other hand, seems to be a photograph of the three sitting on a tree’s roots.
