CD Packaging of the Week:Amnesiac- Radiohead

Album: Amnesiac Artist: Radiohead Cover Artist: Stanley Donwood Year: 2002 This wonderfully done packaging won the Grammy Award for Best Recording Package in 2002. That’s almost a decade ago but this packaging has managed to keep its appeal intact.

It was presented in a red hardbound book filled with artsy illustrations by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, who went by the pseudonym of “Tchocky”.

The CD is placed in a pocket that’s attached to the book along with a fake library card.

The concept is brilliant but it is not something I consider exceptionally brilliant because I think many designers have somehow had this idea before. But what I love about it is that each part is very well executed. In one glance, we can tell that the materials used are of of good quality and the guys behind it were really thinking. Another thing is that it is not flimsy(in fact it is very very sturdy) unlike other artsy/creative packaging. A very nice addition to your collection!
